VISIT TO LITTLE MORETON HALL & TRENTHAM GARDENS
Wednesday 04 October 2017

Little Moreton Hall is a black and white moated and half timbered Tudor Hall, the earlest part having been built for William Moreton in 1504. The building is an irregular shape with three asymmetrical ranges. The Long Gallery runs the length of the south range's upper floors and has caused the lower floors to bow and warp.  During our guided tour we will learn about the family and the building. Trentham Hall, formerly owned by the Duke of Sutherland, is now derelict but the Trentham Estate has been restored to create a lasting landscape legacy to celebrate Lancelot 'Capability' Brown, the lake being one of the finest examples of his work. Sir Charles Barry laid out the formal Italianate gardens in the 1840's and they have been recently restored. We will also see Piet Oudolf's spectacular 'River of Grasses'.  There will be a guided tour with the Head Gardener and the time to explore the Shopping Village with its art, food and gift shops and cafes.

BOOKING AT THE SEPTEMBER MEETING - If you are unable to attend the September meeting and wish to go on this visit, please contact Jane or Ann after 13th September to check availability.
