ONE DAY LONDON VISIT
PRIVATE GUIDED TOUR OF APSLEY HOUSE

Wednesday 08 November 2017

Apsley House, also known as Number 1 London, is the London townhouse of the Dukes of Wellington.  The house was built by Robert Adam for Lord Apsley and was later sold to the Duke of Wellington.

A banquet is served in the Waterloo Gallery on 18th June every year to celebrate the Duke's victory over Napoleon at Waterloo and the guilded dinner service, a gift from King Frederic William 111 of Prussia to honour the Duke's victory, can now be seen laide out on the dining table alongside many other gifts from European rulers. The painting collection includes works by Edwin Landseer, Sir David Wilkie, Pietr de Hooch, Rubens, Van Dyck, Claude Lorrain, Caravaggio and Velazquez.
